Once an informal settlement, the hillside area has been largely redeveloped into modest residential social housing blocks beside the steep Alcântara valley. Streets are mostly quiet and functional, frequented mainly by local residents, though peripheral pockets and transit stairs connecting down toward the railway tracks feel somewhat isolated.

• Steep pedestrian stairways and dark passageways descending toward the Alcântara valley railway tracks can feel isolated late at night.
